I wish to thank Madeline, my wonderful graduate student, for sharing this internet resource with me. It’s called CommonLit, and the site provides free literacy resources (Grades 3-12) for the classroom. The email address is https://www.commonlit.org. Madeline uses this site to create “text sets” to enrich her literature study with nonfiction texts. For example, she read The Giver with her students and found complementary readings that would reinforce some of the concepts presented in this YA novel about a dystopian society. In this way, she balances both fiction and nonfiction texts in her instruction. Madeline reaffirmed what I wrote in an earlier post, that middle school students really enjoy reading this genre. If you know of any other internet resources, please share with our community of book lovers!
